Chris Pine took the internet by storm with his role as Steve Trevor in the Wonder Woman franchise. Three years out from its latest installment, it seems as though Pine has no interest in returning to the superhero genre with Marvel or DC.
The joke of Hollywood Chrises joining superhero projects is one for a reason, with Chris Pine’s role in Wonder Woman only being the latest of many Chrises to join the genre. But with the newest DC Studios reboot kicking Pine from the role of Steve Trevor, the actor was asked if he’d be interested in rejoining the DC Universe or making the jump to Marvel after his role in Spider-Vese, to which he simply told ComicBook.com “No.”
It’s certainly understandable why Chris Pine would want to quit while he was ahead in the superhero genre. Both Marvel and DC hold hefty contract commitments when it comes to their actors. Pine has also tried to move more toward directing in recent years, albeit his freshman outing Poolman received less than stellar reviews. Regardless, it doesn’t look like another superhero project is in the cards for the actor.
The future of the DC Universe
James Gunn and Peter Safran told journalists that their vision for the DC Universe includes locked scripts, wiggle room, and a unified storyline across film, television, animation, and video game projects. The two explained that the DC Universe could bring back elements from previous DC regimes, meaning that their eight-to-year plan is not a full reboot.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods, The Flash, and Blue Beetle have all been released following the announcement of the new DC Universe, with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom still slated to hit theaters in 2023. Will the characters from those movies make appearances in the new DCU? Only Gunn and Safran know.
