A woman said she made a massive error after accidentally tipping a Subway worker $7,112.98 for a sandwich, and her bank gave her a hard time refunding the money.

Vera Conner went to her local Subway restaurant in College Park on Oct. 23 to purchase her pepperoni, salami, and ham sandwich, expecting to pay $7.54. When Conner left the store, she explained to NBC News that she didn’t notice the $7,000 tip was added to her order. She didn’t see the charge until she checked her receipts the following Friday and said the numbers resembled the last six digits of her phone number.
Conner thought she was entering her phone number to ensure she received her Subway reward points, but the screen must’ve switched to the tip amount. However, she went through a month-long situation to have the charge reversed on her Bank of America card.

“I thought it would be an easy fix … then I got the denial from the bank. That’s when I started worrying.”
Conner had to contact Subway and her bank to fix the chargeback, but the restaurant’s manager told her she would have to continue working with the bank. Bank of America said in a statement that the refund was denied because she still had to pay the $7.54 for her sandwich, so her claim had to be resubmitted with only the tip being listed under the dispute.
“You hear all the time that you should use your credit card instead of your debit card so that these things don’t happen. I’m even getting mad at the bank because I’m like how did they not think $7,000 was suspicious at Subway?”
She finally received the chargeback on Monday, but Conner said she is officially done with reward apps.
