Daisy Ridley is officially set to return to the galaxy far, far away as Rey in an upcoming Star Wars film. She admits that, while the story wasn’t what she expected, she’s very excited to return.
It’s safe to say nobody expected Daisy Ridley to return to the world of Star Wars anytime soon. After the rocky reception of the sequel trilogy, especially its final installment, many expected Lucasfilm to lock Rey in a box for years and never mention her again. It seems as though Ridley herself was aware of this perception, recalling how excited she was during the Star Wars Celebration announcement:
“I was shitting myself before I went on stage, because no one knew I was going to that,” Ridley told Collider. “No one knew I was going to Celebration, bar like Kathy [Kennedy] and there were a couple of people. I was so nervous. Oh my God. It was such a wonderful reception. I’m very excited. The story is really cool. I’m waiting to read a script because, obviously, I don’t have any other updates. It’s not what I expected, but I’m very excited.”
Despite being excited for the story, Daisy Ridley has mostly remained tight-lipped about what the future holds for Rey. According to the actress, while she hasn’t read the script yet, she does know the general plot for the upcoming Star Wars project, claiming that she thinks people will be very excited:
“I know the storyline for one film,” She continued. “That’s not to say that that’s all it is, but that’s what I was told about. And I imagine it will be the next film, I think. I mean, again, I don’t know, post strikes and everything, how quickly everything will start up again. But yes, so far, I know the story of one film and I think people will be very excited.”
Star Wars has certainly been one of the many victims of recent hype cycles, with nearly every piece of news oscillating the fanbase between “we’re so back” and “it’s so over”. However, this upcoming film has a chance, not just to redeem Daisy Ridley as Rey, but the entire galaxy far, far away in the eyes of the public. Let’s just hope that, somehow, Palpatine DOESN’T return!
The future of Star Wars looks brighter than ever
During Star Wars Celebration, Lucasfilm made some exciting announcements for the future of the franchise. At the event, Kathleen Kennedy announced that Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, Dave Filoni and James Mangold are all set to direct their own Star Wars movies. Details about the projects are still scarce, but each one is set during a different time period in the galaxy far, far away.
The announcement of these three new Star Wars movies marks an exciting time for fans of the franchise. With each movie being directed by a different filmmaker, there is sure to be a unique perspective and style brought to each project.
