Jenna Ortega is not returning to reprise her role for ‘Scream 7’ as she is filming season two for Netflix’s ‘Wednesday’

The news was revealed a day after her co-star Melissa Barrera was fired by Spyglass Media, who accused Barrera of posting anti-semitic Instagram posts about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. However, Deadline says Ortega is not returning because she has to head to Ireland in April to shoot the second season of ‘Wednesday.’
Ortega and Barrera played sisters Tara and Sam Carpenter in 2022’s ‘Scream’ and this year’s ‘Scream VI.’ Yesterday, Barrera responded to her firing and posted a quote on her Instagram story: “At the end of the day, I’d rather be excluded for who I include than be included for who I exclude.” Director Christopher Landon posted a statement in response to Barrera’s firing in a now-deleted tweet on X that said, “This is my statement: 💔 Everything sucks. Stop yelling. This was not my decision to make.”

Fans reacted to Ortega’s exit from the seventh film and said they will be boycotting the film since both actresses will not star in their respective leading roles.
