US band Brian Jonestown Massacre have cancelled the remainder of their Aussie tour dates following a brawl breaking out onstage during their Melbourne gig.

While fights at music gigs can sometimes occur between members of the audience offstage, it was actually the band members fighting each other this time.

The group were set to play another sold out show at the Theatre Royal in Castlemaine, Victoria, however a statement on the theatre’s website made it clear that would no longer be the case, citing ‘medical grounds’ as the reason.

The band has also cancelled their upcoming gigs in Melbourne and Wollongong, basically cutting their tour down under three shows short.

Their Tuesday night gig came to an abrupt end when a fight broke out between the band’s founder Anton Newcombe and guitarist Ryan Van Kriedt.

They were only six songs into their set at the time.

Fans watched on in shock, with a few capturing the moment on their phone to post to social media.

The videos show the two members of the psychedelic rock band throwing punches on stage during their show at The Forum in the Melbourne CBD.

After the initial hit, the fight broke out into a full in brawl featuring band members chasing one another around the stage, pushing and punching at each other, and even a guitar getting slammed over someone’s head.

The venue staff acted quickly, with security jumping up on to stage to break up the fight while the safety curtains were lowered to prevent the audience from seeing anymore than they already had.

“What a car crash! One of those gigs you hear about but never see,” one attendee shared on social media.

Another posted that the gig ended up “really absurd”.

“Paid money big money to see music, got a WWE act instead,” an Instagram user commented on the band’s page.
