10 Great Movies Where the Hero Is Secretly the Villain

Summary

Fallout TV show is set to feature iconic locations, characters, and weapons from the popular video game franchise, staying true to the source material. Recent successful video game adaptations indicate that the curse of adapting games to film is slowly being lifted. The show has the potential to incorporate the beloved humor and narration style that fans have come to expect from the Fallout games.

Although the details surrounding Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming Fallout TV show are few, there are plenty of characters, locations, weapons, and more that people familiar with the source material can expect to see in the live-action adaptation. Known for its deep and engaging world, well-written stories, and addictive gameplay, Fallout has been held in high regard by gamers worldwide since its debut in 1997. Even though Fallout will craft and tell its own unique story removed from the games, it’s still possible the show will incorporate references to key moments from the franchise’s expansive lore.

While video game adaptations are still a relatively new and untested genre, the recent success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Sonic the Hedgehog movies, and HBO’s The Last of Us season 1 have proven that the video game adaptation curse is slowly being lifted. The video game adaptation genre ebbs and flows in terms of quality, but that hasn’t stopped the industry from adapting everything from the classics to contemporary successes. With Fallout’s release date set to 2024, Amazon Prime Video has plenty of time to decide what will and won’t make it into season 1.

10 Fallout’s Vaults

Testing Grounds For Evil Experiments

Exiting the bunker in Fallout TV series

The vaults are among some of the most recognizable locations in the Fallout franchise, as they’re where the survivors of the game’s apocalypse take refuge from the nuclear radiation that pollutes the surface world. However, in spite of the familiar structures providing solace for many of the inhabitants of the Fallout world, wicked and amoral experiments are also conducted in conjunction with the U.S. military. Each vault has a unique purpose, and considering Fallout takes place in Los Angeles, it raises the question of whether there will be a connection between Fallout’s Vault 33 and the City of Angels.

9 Fallout’s Ghouls

Mysterious Characters Who Populate The World

The ghouls in the Fallout series are perhaps some of the most interesting characters populating the post-apocalyptic world. Known for their deathly appearance, many of the ghouls in the franchise are actually just humans whose skin deteriorated thanks to being exposed to too much radiation. Alternatively, there are feral ghouls who will viciously attack the player and even infect them with radiation if they aren’t cautious. Per Deadline, Walton Goggins is expected to be playing a ghoul in Fallout. If so, he’ll likely play the clever ghoul leader John Hancock.

8 The Brotherhood of Steel

Heroic Faction That Has Appeared In Every Game

The Brotherhood of Steel is among the most iconic entities in the Fallout series, and that’s due to them appearing in every entry in the series, and because of their amazing body armor that protects them from radiation. Akin to the world’s police department, the Brotherhood of Steel’s primary function is to preserve the integrity of advanced technology, and regulate its usage among those lucky or clever enough to use it. From what has been teased in a private screening of the Fallout trailer, the Brotherhood of Steel will be on the show, as they were seen marching through a deserted wasteland.

7 Fallout’s The Enclave

The Should Be Among The Show’s Villains

Fallout's The Enclave soldiers

The Enclave is one of the most oppressive forces in Fallout, and they are a self-proclaimed continuation of the United States of America. In addition to their arrogant claim to fame, the Enclave utilizes brute force and extreme measures to exalt themselves to unsuspecting survivors or rebel forces. While it hasn’t been confirmed, audiences can expect the Enclave to appear in Fallout, as they’re direct enemies of the Brotherhood of Steel. Whether Fallout continues the two factions’ rivalry or concocts something new, the Enclave’s presence in Fallout would be a welcome addition.

6 Fallout’s Deathclaws

Iconic Enemies

Deathclaws roam the great outdoors in Fallout and are considered the franchise’s apex predators. With their horned heads, ridiculous speed, and razor-sharp claws that have inspired their names, Deathclaws are destined to give any players unlucky enough to cross paths with them a hard time. Like most other things that have made Fallout a household name, it is uncertain at this time if any Deathclaws will be featured in the show. However, considering the show will likely take place across the vastness that is a post-apocalyptic LA, it isn’t a stretch to assume they will soon make their live-action.

5 Fallout’s Sense Of Humor

Fallout Is Also Beloved For Its Wry Sense Of Humor

The iconic Vault Boy winking and giving the player a thumbs up.

In addition to the franchise’s heavy lore and fun gameplay, the Fallout games are recognized for their witty and sardonic sense of humor. In a series set during the post-apocalypse, it’s necessary to offer audiences moments of levity to keep the gameplay fresh and the story engaging. Those familiar with the source material will likely enjoy the upcoming Fallout adaptation much more if it includes the wry sense of humor that has made the games so unique.

4 Ron Perlman’s Narration

Perlman Has Narrated Every Game In The Franchise

Ron Perlman recording lines in the voice over booth for the Fallout series

Perhaps the most underrated aspect of Fallout’s success is its brilliant narration by Ron Perlman. Having been the narrator since the series’ debut, Perlman’s rich, booming voice immediately captivated gamers the moment he uttered his famous, “War… war never changes” line. It’s possible that Perlman could narrate each episode with the same iconic lines or greet viewers with something completely new. Either way, it would be a huge missed opportunity not to bring Perlman back for the live-action series.

3 “Maybe” By The Ink Spots

It Plays During The Intro and Credits To Fallout

The Player and Dogmeat prepare to brave the post-apocalyptic landscape in Fallout 4

“Maybe” by The Ink Spots is more or less the franchise’s theme song, and that’s because its lyrical content essentially sums up the feelings players might have while immersing themselves in the games. The song’s message of persevering through loneliness and building something from the ground up has inspired audiences for decades. While there are plenty of artists and musicians working today who could deliver an appropriate piece of music for the show’s opening and/or closing credits, “Maybe” would likely be the best option.

2 Fallout’s The Master

Primary Antagonist For The First Fallout Game

The Master taunts the player at the end of Fallout

Even though Fallout is supposed to follow its own original story, The Master could still exist in the show in a peripheral capacity. It would also be unlikely that he would physically show up in the show considering his defeat to the player at the end of the first game. However, his super mutant creations and influence from the first Fallout game could still have impermanence over the show’s lore, thus solidifying him as one of the franchise’s most terrifying villains.

1 The Sierra Madre Casino

Arguably The Most Important Location In The Franchise

The iconic Sierra Madre Casino from Fallout: New Vegas

The Sierra Madre Casino was built to shelter the elites during the pre-war days. In Fallout: New Vegas, players are given the option to loot as much gold as possible before the casino explodes, thus presenting them with the dilemma of choosing between riches in the post-apocalypse, or their lives. The casino’s symbolism and commentary about greed and its memorable companions whom you meet are also why it’s revered. While it likely won’t appear on account of Fallout’s original storyline, it would be great to see a reference to it one way or another because of its thematic relevance.
