Few names come to mind when it comes to the elusive nexus of musical originality, branding and execution. Without a doubt, Apashe is one of them.

Apashe today released his sophomore album, Antagonist, continuing to furiously carve his own path within electronic music and take his groundbreaking sound to new heights. Out now via Majestic Collective, the record includes a star-studded cast of features from the likes of Busta Rhymes, Joey Valence & Brae, EARTHGANG and Flux Pavilion as well as frequent collaborators like Wasiu.

It’s the inimitable aspects of Apashe’s production, however, that make his long-form works stand out. Much like its predecessor Renaissance, Antagonist incorporates textured orchestral elements in each song to create cinematic set-piece moments throughout, like in the haunting interlude, “Kryptonite” (with Timour Leng and LIA). Apashe flexes his growth this time around, embracing the grit of hip-hop (“Menace”) and the swing of house music (“RIP”), among other genres.

If its music itself wasn’t enough, Apashe’s music videos add layers of depth to Antagonist. He has once again teamed up with award-winning director Adrian Villagomez, who has worked with Denzel Curry and Jean-Michel Blais. Guiding us through an imaginative storyline, the two have developed audiovisuals that equate to theatrical experiences.

To put it simply, no one is doing it quite like Apashe, whose branding, production and overall vision are so distinct that he’s moved into another echelon above his contemporaries in electronic music. You can listen to Antagonist below and find the new album on streaming platforms here.
