David Ayer has once more taken to social media to champion the release of his Suicide Squad cut. In doing so, the director has also championed James Gunn’s bravery for his new role at DC Studios.
It’s now been over a year since James Gunn and Peter Safran took over DC Studios. While some fans remain hesitant, many others finally have hope for the DC Universe. One surprising member of the latter group is Suicide Squad director David Ayer, taking to social media to share his support for Gunn.
This isn’t the first time David Ayer has expressed support for James Gunn’s new DC Universe. While the director has confirmed DC Studios won’t be releasing his “Ayer Cut” of Suicide Squad anytime soon, his relationship with Gunn certainly gives a sliver of hope that it may eventually see the light of day. At the very least, hopefully, fans will get some more concept art!
The future of the DC Universe
James Gunn and Peter Safran told journalists that their vision for the DC Universe includes locked scripts, wiggle room, and a unified storyline across film, television, animation, and video game projects. The two explained that the DC Universe could bring back elements from previous DC regimes, meaning that their eight-to-year plan is not a full reboot.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods, The Flash, and Blue Beetle have all been released following the announcement of the new DC Universe, with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom still slated to hit theaters in 2023. Will the characters from those movies make appearances in the new DCU? Only Gunn and Safran know.
