This week’s top comics to buy for November 29 features not one but two comics about barbarians. This is unusual, as generally the list does not feature many comics about barbarians at all. However. Really two of the most exciting fantasy comics in years have been barbarian centric, and each of them continues this week…and the results are fantastic. You can find out more about each below, along with the usual set of lists … enjoy!

Comics to Buy for November 29

comics to buy for november 29Barbaric: Wrong Kind of Righteous #1Writers: Nicholas Eames and Michael MoreciArtist: Nathan GoodenColorist: Addison DukeLetterer: Jim CampbellPublisher: Vault ComicsBest-selling, Gemmell Award-winning Fantasy author Nicholas Eames (Kings of the Wyld) teams up with Michael Moreci and Nathan Gooden to tell the tale of Sir Borys the Righteous Paladin and his trusty, talking Flail, as he enlists the help of Owen, Axe, and Soren on his noble path. There will be virtuous bloodshed! There will be wailing protests! There will be two talking weapons! And there will be wyvern burgers served (for better or worse) with pickles!”Why It’s Cool: Not since Barbaric #1 has there been a better entry point to one of the finest fantasy series in recent comics history. This double-sized one-shot is a self-contained story that really goes right at the heart of the whole Barbaric concept and comes back with something super clever. This book is funny, hard-hitting, gritty as all get out — it’s everything you love about Barbaric. Price: $6.99

Conan The Barbarian #5Writer: Jim ZubArtist: Doug BraithwaiteColorist: Diego RodriguezLetterer: Richard StarkingsAfter adventures on the high seas, CONAN returns to shore to find himself haunted by his memories of BELIT, captain of the Tigress and Queen of the Black Coast. Can a high-stakes heist draw him out of his tortured past, or will it plunge him deeper into the chaos that has always been waiting for him?Why It’s Cool: After an absolutely killer first arc, the new Conan book jumps into a whole new story this week — and it hardly misses a beat. This actually feels like almost an alternate series launch, one that could run sort of parallel to the first arc. But that’s by no means a bad thing. This title remains a must read for me.Price: $3.99

comics to buy for november 29Giant Robot Hellboy #2Story: Mike MignolaArt: Duncan FegredoColors: Dave StewartLetters: Clem RobinsPublisher: Dark Horse ComicsWhile Hellboy’s robotic counterpart battles giant monsters on a faraway island, the scientists running the mission scramble when things at the lab get more than a little out of hand. Inspired by Mignola’s viral-hit pencil drawings from Mike Mignola: The Quarantine Sketchbook, Giant Robot Hellboy gets his own story in this 3-part miniseries from Mignola and longtime Hellboy artist Duncan Fegredo! Why It’s Cool: This is the best Hellboy miniseries in I don’t know how long, and, quite possibly, my favorite comic of the year. It’s just a delightful blast of pulp storytelling that delivers quite a bit of fun without ever feeling too unserious or trite. The art is fantastic, the plotting right to the point, and the end result fantastic.Price: $3.99

The Flash #3Writer: Si SpurrierArtist: Mike Deodato, Jr.Colorist: Trish MulvihillLetterer: Hassan Otsmane-ElhaouPublisher: DC ComicsAfter the arrival of the Stillness last issue, the alien speedsters begin traveling around the world, with Max Mercury watching their every move. Meanwhile, Wally encounters another former foe who’s gotten a major upgrade–the Folding Man–while entering a new location beyond time called the Gallery…what hidden truths does this place hold for the Flash? Why It’s Cool: This is one of the weirdest superhero comics I’ve read in sometime, and it’s weird in deep kooky sci-fi way that perfectly fits the concept of its main character. This first story arc of the new Flash book goes deep into the cracks of the speed force to come back with all kinds of dark oddities. It’s great.Price: $3.99

Swan Songs #5Writer: W. Maxwell PrinceArtist: Alex Eckman-LawnLetterer: Good Old NeonPublisher: Image ComicsVia therapeutic hypnosis, a man travels through his subconscious to try to find his inner child-and a way to be happy again.A comic that doesn’t look like any other comic ever made, this issue is done in full collage art by the spectacular ALEX ECKMAN-LAWN-a veritable dream in four colors. Why It’s Cool: Rounding out this week’s top comics to buy for November 29 is a comic unlike any I’ve ever really seen before. This book — which centers around a character going through therapeutic hypnosis — is illustrated entirely by collage art. It’s a bold choice that pays off huge, creating a stunner of a book for what has been a very strong and interesting set of stories in Swan Songs. I mean, just take a look at this cover.Price: $3.99
