It seems as though Taika Waititi’s Star Wars project is still chugging along. During a recent interview, the director revealed he wants the film to recapture the magic of the Original Trilogy.
News about Taika Waititi’s Star Wars project has been slow to come, with the director only revealing his hopes for the tone and struggles to finish the second act of the script. Luckily, it seems new details are finally starting to come out, with Waititi expressing his hopes to recapture the spectacle of the Original Trilogy in a recent interview:
“I’ve been developing [the Star Wars film] for a few years, but I think with any film, but that one in particular, it’s something I’d really like to get right, so I don’t want to rush it,” Waititi explained on The Kelly Clarkson Show. “It’s going to bubble along on the side…I wanna capture that joy and entertainment of those early ones like The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi and all those ones, so I’m trying to figure that out. It’ll happen.”
In truth, it seems almost every Star Wars project is aiming to capture the nostalgia of the Original Trilogy, be it shows like Andor set during the same time period or even the newest trilogy having Palpatine (somehow) return. While it’s an admirable goal for Taika Waititi to set out to achieve, only time will tell which side of success he ends up on.
The future of Star Wars looks brighter than ever
During Star Wars Celebration, Lucasfilm made some exciting announcements for the future of the franchise. At the event, Kathleen Kennedy announced that Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, Dave Filoni and James Mangold are all set to direct their own Star Wars movies. Details about the projects are still scarce, but each one is set during a different time period in the galaxy far, far away.
The announcement of these three new Star Wars movies marks an exciting time for fans of the franchise. With each movie being directed by a different filmmaker, there is sure to be a unique perspective and style brought to each project.
