U.K. street punk band the Chisel have been on the rise lately, and now they’ve announced their first album for Pure Noise, What A Fucking Nightmare. It follows their 2021 debut LP, Retaliation, which originally came out via La Vida Es Mus Discos and which Pure Noise re-released earlier this year.
The Chisel — who share current and former members with Chubby and the Gang, Violent Reaction, Arms Race, and more — make rabble-rousing punk anthems that should appeal to fans of anything from Cock Sparrer to Rancid, and two songs from the new album are out now. The recently released lead single “Cry Your Eyes Out” is an earnest, catchy singalong that the band says takes inspiration from the Replacements, the Ramones, and Leatherface in addition to their usual street punk/Oi! influences, while the just-released “Fuck ‘Em” is a little angrier. It’s an 80-second rager that vocalist Cal Graham says is “about people who talk but don’t have much to say: gobshites and over-opinionated knobhead.” Check out the videos for both (by Sumo Crucial Productions and Nick Sucha, respectively) below.
The new album was produced by Jonah Falco of Fucked Up, who also worked on Retaliation, and recorded by John Atkinson. It comes out Feb. 9 via Pure Noise.
The Chisel are also playing some U.S. shows in early 2024, followed by a U.K. tour with Rifle and then a Europe tour with Madball, Scowl, Sunami, and Mindwar. See all dates below.
