Ever since 070 Shake’s “Trust Nobody” went viral in 2016, her star has been steeply ascending.

While she’s still in the process of building the record when she connects with AP, the experimental artist sounds more confident and at ease. The record, naturally, represents a new phase of growth and vulnerability for the Jersey musician, who blends R&B and hip-hop into an intoxicating sound but exists far outside of any one lane.

“We’re the only ones who could’ve created this,” Shake says. “Whether it’s good or bad, you have the option to make sense of this feeling. It exists for people that need it or want it. It’s something new.” Created across Los Angeles and Arizona, Shake sings from the heart and uses her unique experiences to guide the project. “Everything that’s happening in the world is a part of my life,” she says.
