The star of Disney‘s upcoming live-action Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs remake, Rachel Zegler, has praised the legacy of the original animated movie.

In an Actors on Actors interview from Variety, Zegler sat down with The Little Mermaid star Halle Bailey to discuss their 2023 films with one another. When the topic on Snow White came up, Bailey asked Zegler if she felt any pressure in playing Disney’s first princess.

“Definitely pressure. The cartoon’s so beloved,” Zegler explained. “It’s like a monumental moment in film history. It was the first feature length cartoon movie, to the point where it won honorary Oscars, and all of these amazing things that happened for that film are the reason that you and I really get to sit here today, because it made Disney what it is.

“So, of course, there’s this pressure of being the first one … having to bring to life the first one, and, obviously, that has come with a lot of pressure that I’ve put on myself and, much like Hunger Games, there’s just a very dedicated group of people who love Disney cartoons. I’m one of them. I love everything that the Disney company has put out in the past 100 years, this year.”

In addition to Zegler in the titular role, the film will feature Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen. Joining them are Andrew Burnap as Jonathan and Martin Klebba as Grumpy. Set to be directed and produced by Marc Webb from a screenplay by Greta Gerwig and Erin Cressida Wilson, the project is expected to expand upon the story and music from the original. La La Land and The Greatest Showman duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul are also attached to write new songs for the adaptation.
