The Longest Promise is a Chinese xianxia romance drama series that serves as a prequel to the 2022 series Mirror: A Tale of Twin Cities. The plot revolves around Shi Ying, the banished crown prince of Kong Sang, who becomes the teacher of Zhu Yan, the princess of the Chi Yi clan. Things take an unexpected turn when conflicts around them suddenly make Shi Ying and Zhu Yan enemies.

The Longest Promise is based on the novel Zhu Yan by Cang Yue, just like Mirror: A Tale of Twin Cities is an adaptation of Yue’s Mirror: Twin Cities. Season 1 began streaming on Tencent Video between July 2, 2023, and July 20, 2023, and is currently available on Netflix in the US and some other countries. If you are wondering whether there will be a second season of The Longest Promise, we got you covered.

Here’s all we know about The Longest Promise Season 2 and whether or not it’s coming out.

Is there a The Longest Promise Season 2 release date?

There is no The Longest Promise Season 2 release date as the series seems to have ended with season 1.

As of December 2023, The Longest Promise hasn’t been renewed for season 2. Although The first season concludes with an open ending, which significantly differs from the happy ending in the book, it is nonetheless quite definitive and echoes the ending of Mirror: A Tale of Twin Cities. In the final episode, Shi Ying sacrifices himself to save Kong Sang from the wrath of the god of destruction. Before his demise, Shi Ying tells Zhu Yan that every time a xue hanwei flower blooms, it’s him returning to her. The season ends by depicting the lovers as they reunite three years later in the very place of their first encounter and doesn’t necessarily offer any clear answer about how it has happened or whether it is a dream that Zhu Yan is having.

While The Longest Promise Season 2 may not happen, the producers can potentially adapt one of Cang Yue’s other novels. ComingSoon will provide an update if the circumstances change.

The cast includes Xiao Zhan as Shi Ying, Ren Min as Zhu Yan, Zeng Li as Bai Yan, He Shengming as Emperor Beimian, Ye Shengjia as Shi Yu, Chen Zijan as Qing Yun, Chen Xinyu as Qiu Shui, and more.

The official synopsis for The Longest Promise reads:

“From the Kong Sang Continent comes the tale of the tumultuous love story of Princess Zhu Yan of the Chi Yi Tribe and Royal Prince Shi Ying, The framing of the Queen results in the Prince being banished to Jiu Yi Mountain to cultivate. Once solely focused on his tasks, he develops romantic feelings for his disciple Zhu Yan. But their student/teacher relationship prevents either from expressing their true feelings. Fate then works against them when they choose opposing sides in a political struggle of life and death proportions. Eventually, putting aside their issues, they pledge to protect their beloved Kong Sang Continent.”
