Kelly Clarkson and General Hospital both won big at the 2023 Daytime Emmys, with Kelly taking home Outstanding Daytime Talk Series and Outstanding Daytime Talk Series Host.
General Hospital took home six awards omn the evening, picking up the first two awards of the evening for the late Sonya Eddy in Supporting Actress and Robert Gossett in Supporting Actor, and the Outstandign Daytime Drama Series. Eden McCoy won Oustanding Younger Performance in a Daytime Drama for her role in the soap.
General Hospital actress Sonya won the first 2023 Daytime Emmy of the evening, a year after her death at the age of 55. The beloved actress, who appeared in over 500 episodes of General Hospital over 15 years, died on December 19. She won the Outstanding Supporting Performance in a Drama Series: Actress award, and her friend Tyler Ford accepted on her behalf, giving an emotional tribute, sharing that Sonya would be “more overjoyed for being remembered for how she made people feel on screen and off.”
“This is for and because of my mother,” 20-year-old Eden said, honoring her mom who died in November 2023. “It’s not lost on me what an absolute privilege it is to be able to do something, not only I like to do but love to do for a living, and I love what I do. It’s really easy to be grateful on nights like this, but I am grateful every day.”
The soap also won for Guest Actor and Directing.
© NBCThe Daytime Creative Arts & Lifestyle Emmys are set to take place on Saturday, December 16 where other awards will be given out; Selena Gomez, Drew Barrymore and Zac Efron are all also nominated in those categories.
Kelly received six nominations total for her talk show, while Zac received four for his Netflix documentary Down to Earth. Joanna and Chip Gaines have one nomimation for Fixer Upper: The Castle, but their network Magnolia has two further nods as well.
The red carpet looked as gorgeous as ever with nominees including General Hospital’s Eden and Brook Kerr among the first to hit the carpet at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles. Meanwhile Susan Lucci, 76, was all smiles as she rockd a gorgeous sequin tangerine gown. Susan – who starred as Erica Kane on All My Children and was nominated 19 times before she won the award Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series – will be honored as the Lifetime Achievement Daytime Emmy Award recipient.
