Nosferatu Director Robert Eggers recently opened up about Bill Skarsgård’s unrecognizable transformation into the vampire Count Orlok. Skarsgård is great at disappearing in the roles that he plays, just look at how awesome he was as Pennywise the Clown in the two It films! But, apparently, he disappears even deeper into the role of Count Orlock.

When talking about what we can expect from Skarsgård in Nosferatu, Eggers teased: “There are things that are Schreck-like but I felt we had to do something else. Basically I was like, ‘What would a dead Transylvanian nobleman actually look like for real?’ Bill lost a tremendous amount of weight.”

The filmmaker went on to say: “He’s so transformed in every aspect that I don’t know if people will give him the credit. You can see Bill [as Pennywise] in the It make-up; you can’t detect any Bill here. He worked with an opera coach to lower his voice an octave. I think people are going to think we treated it digitally, but that’s his performance.”

Damn! That’s a performance that I can’t wait to see! In this new reimagining, Nosferatu tells the haunting gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman (Lily-Rose Depp) in 19th-century Germany and the ancient Transylvanian vampire (Bill Skarsgård) who stalks her, bringing untold horror with him.

Nicholas Hoult also stars in the movie along with Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man: No Way Home), Emma Corrin (Deadpool 3), Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kraven the Hunter), Simon McBurney (The Conjuring 2) and Ralph Ineson (The Witch).

When talking about the movie, Eggers said: “It’s a scary film. It’s a horror movie. It’s a Gothic horror movie. And I do think that there hasn’t been an old-school Gothic movie that’s actually scary in a while. And I think that the majority of audiences will find this one to be the case.”

Focus Features chairman Peter Kujawski said in a statement: “The audacious filmmaking of Robert Eggers is always a gift for fans, and we can promise that his Nosferatu is planning quite the Christmas feast.”
