Avengers: Secret Wars seems poised to be the biggest comic book film of all time. When asked about his potential involvement, Sir Patrick Stewart played coy about his potential return to the MCU as Charles Xavier.
As divisive as the film was, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness delighted fans by bringing Sir Patrick Stewart into the MCU as Charles Xavier (even if only briefly). This has led many fans to speculate that he’s not done with his time as Professor X, with rumors abound that he’d return in Avengers: Secret Wars. When asked about this, Stewart admitted it’s a possibility:
“I cannot put [those rumors] to rest because it’s not a fact either for or against,” Stewart revealed in a recent interview with EtalkCTV. “It is a possibility.Hugh Jackman and I looked upon Logan as being our farewell. Given that I died in that film, although I’ve been told I’ve actually died several times already [Laughs]. How do I do it?”
Give Hugh Jackman himself is set to make his MCU debut with Deadpool 3, it seems Sir Patrick Stewart is more than open to returning as Professor X in Avengers: Secret Wars. Though given how packed the cast for the project will be, it’s posisble that his final outing as Charles Xavier will end up being little more than a cameo!
The Future of the Avengers Franchise
Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is the first movie in a two-part finale to Marvel’s Multiverse Saga. It will be followed by Avengers: Secret Wars, rounding out Marvel Studios’ Phase 6. Both films are scheduled to arrive in theaters in 2025.
Destin Daniel Cretton recently made the decision to step down from his role as the director of the upcoming Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. However, Destin Daniel Cretton’s Avengers: The Kang Dynasty departure is not an exit from the Marvel family but rather a realignment of his directorial commitments as he’s focused on Wonder Woman and Shang-Chi 2.
Secret Wars is a crossover event that will bring together characters from all across the Marvel multiverse, so Iron Man’s experience and leadership will be invaluable to the Avengers. Michael Waldron is set to write the upcoming Marvel Studios film Avengers: Secret Wars, but a director has yet to be announced.
