The director of ‘Home Alone‘ claims twice-impeached United States President Donald Trump “bullied” his way into the sequel, which happened to include scenes filmed at Trump’s hotel at the time.

Following the 1990 original hit film, ‘Home Alone‘ director Chris Columbus returned to direct the 1992 sequel, ‘Home Alone 2: Lost in New York,’ which featured a brief appearance by Donald Trump. However, while speaking with Business Insider, Columbus said that Trump’s cameo in the movie’s sequel wasn’t originally in the script, much less expected.

As we all know, in the film’s sequel, “Kevin McCallister,” played by Macaulay Culkin, is once again left home alone by his family and finds his way to New York City, New York. While wandering around the Big Apple, Kevin eventually talks his way into staying at the luxurious Plaza Hotel, where ends up having another wild run-in with the burglars from the first film, “Harry Lime,” played by Joe Pesci, and “Marv Murchins,” played by Daniel Stern.

However, in order to film at the big hotel, Columbus said its owner, Donald Trump, had only agreed to let the production company shoot in his hotel’s lobby if he was featured in the big movie. If you didn’t know, before Trump became the 45th President of the United States, and before he was on TV firing celebrities, he first found fame as a big-time New York City businessman.

Columbus said that after being strong-armed, the production team just ended up dealing with Trump to get what they needed to finish the film. He said, “We wanted to shoot in the lobby. We couldn’t rebuild The Plaza on a soundstage.”

The director also admitted that production simply thought they could just offer Trump a fee to use the lobby of his hotel and call it a day, which is the norm when wanting to shoot at a specific location; however, Trump, in usual Trump fashion, wanted more.

Columbus added, “We paid the fee, but he also said, ‘The only way you can use the Plaza is if I’m in the movie.’ So we agreed to put him in the movie.” When the film was shown to its first audience with Trump’s cameo, Columbus said, “People cheered when Trump showed up on-screen. So I said to my editor, ‘Leave him in the movie. It’s a moment for the audience.’ But [Trump] did bully his way into the movie.”
