While Epstein died in prison before his trial, his former girlfriend Ghislaine Maxwell was sentenced to 20 years in prison for her involvement in trafficking minor girls. Her lawyer, Arthur Aidala, has stated that Maxwell has “nothing to say” about Epstein or the publically released court documents.

While speaking with NewsNation on Tuesday, Aidala said his client didn’t comment on Epstein or the documents published. However, Maxwell is reportedly upset that she is the only individual who is facing consequences over Epstein’s sex trafficking ring. “I don’t think she has anything to talk about except maybe that if you look at this crime, this overall crime, it’s all about men abusing women. For a long period of time, a lot of men, that’s what were waiting for this list. And there’s only one person in jail, a woman. It’s not one guy behind bars for all of these crimes, this sex trafficking ring,” Aidala explained to Brian Entin. Aidala also noted that Maxwell doesn’t appear to have any loyalty towards Epstein and remains loyal to her truth.
“I don’t think she’s loyal to him; I think she’s loyal to herself. I think she’s loyal to the facts. I think she’s loyal to the truth. And look, I was a prosecutor, I was a criminal, I am a criminal defense attorney. A lot of these cases take on lives of their of their their own, and people start believing things that aren’t true. Regarding this list, I can see people running amok because there are going to be names there that are just witnesses like, oh, that person may have been in this place at that time,” he continued.

The documents in question stem from a settled civil lawsuit filed in 2015 by Virginia Giuffre, an alleged sex trafficking victim, against Maxwell. The Miami Herald has been fighting to unseal these documents since 2018. In December, U.S. District Judge Loretta Preska ordered that the names could be unsealed starting from January 1. Judge Preska noted that many of the individuals named in the documents had already given media interviews or had their names listed in other public court documents related to the case.
Giuffre claimed that Epstein and Maxwell pressured her, as a teenager, to engage in sexual relationships with powerful men, including Prince Andrew. The accused men denied the allegations, and Giuffre later settled a lawsuit against Prince Andrew out of court. Notably, Giuffre did not testify at Maxwell’s criminal trial, where her attorneys argued that she was a victim of a vindictive prosecution aimed at delivering justice to women who were deprived of their main perpetrator when Epstein died.
As the court documents related to Jeffrey Epstein’s case are set to be unsealed, the focus turns to Ghislaine Maxwell and the potential consequences she may face. While the anticipation surrounding the release of names continues to grow, Maxwell’s lawyer maintains that she has nothing to say.
“When you speak to Ghislaine Maxwell, she’s a very smart woman. She knows the law. She knows her case, inside and out upside down. And she knows that she really didn’t get a fair shake. And, again, I mean, it does seem a little hypocritical, doesn’t it that this is a case about women being used in the worst way possible. And the only human being in prison paying the price is a woman when all we’re worried about is this list of all these other men and none of them have been prosecuted. Not one.”
