Taika Waititi’s Live-Action Movie Gets Disappointing Update

Vertical (via IndieWire) has released the poster for Jeff Darling’s new true crime film, He Went That Way, showcasing Jacob Elordi’s real-life serial killer Bobby holding Zachary Quinto’s Jim at gunpoint. The film is scheduled to premiere in select theaters on January 5, 2024, and will have its VOD release on January 12, 2024.

The upcoming crime film will center on celebrity animal trainer Jim, who offers a young man a ride. Unbeknownst to him, the young man turns out to be a serial killer, putting him in a crime-fueled road trip situation.

You can check out the poster below:

He Went That Way will tell the harrowing true story of a 1964 serial killer

Written by Evan M. Wiener, He Went That Way is based on the true story of celebrity animal trainer Dave Pitts and the days he spent with a serial killer. The film’s plot revolves around two strangers, 19-year-old Bobby and celebrity animal handler Jim, with the latter discovering a terrifying truth as their trip progresses.

“Set in 1964, the film is a taut thriller based on a true crime story that puts a wicked spin on the buddy road trip film,” the synopsis reads. “The film follows 19-year-old serial killer Bobby as he is picked up by a celebrity animal handler, Jim, on a desolate stretch of Route 66 with priceless cargo in tow: Jim’s chimpanzee, Spanky, an American TV darling. As stress between Bobby and Jim rises and their fiery personalities combust, the road only becomes more treacherous the farther they go.”

He Went That Way served as Darling’s feature-length directorial debut. Sadly, the film also serves as his final film project, as he died in a surfing accident in Sydney on March 22. He was 60 years old.

Starring alongside Elordi and Quinto are Patrick J. Adams, Troy Evans, Alexandra Doke, Erin Moore, John Lee Ames, and more.

He Went That Way will hit theaters on January 5, 2024.
