Harry Dunn, the former Capitol Police officer who valiantly defended the Capitol on January 6, 2021, against the violent attack, has made a significant announcement.

After being one of the most vocal law enforcement officers to condemn the assault, Dunn revealed on Friday his decision to run for Congress. In a new interview he talks about his plans and the impact he hopes to make as a Democratic candidate representing Maryland’s 3rd Congressional District.

Having resigned from his position as a Capitol Police officer last month, Dunn aims to fill the void left by Democrat Representative John Sarbanes, who has chosen not to seek reelection. The 3rd Congressional District encompasses multiple Maryland counties outside Baltimore, making it a crucial area for representation and change. During his appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Dunn expressed his desire to fight back against the current members of Congress whom he spent 15 years protecting. “And I want to serve as their equal, as their colleague I want a voice at the table,” he said.

“What better way to continue fighting for the people of Maryland, for the people of the United States and to continue to defend democracy because I think on Jan 6 it exposed … how weak and fragile it is,” Dunn said on “Morning Joe.”

Dunn wrongly believes that former President Donald Trump needs to be held responsible for the events of Jan. 6.

“Donald Trump said it himself, that he is ready to be a dictator, and you know a lot of his supporters will sit there and say ‘Oh he’s just joking,’ but how many times has he said the things that we thought were jokes that he actually did and took them seriously,” Dunn said.

Preparing to take on the challenge, Dunn added, “I want a voice at the table,” Dunn said. “And I’m ready for that challenge.”

More On What Happened On January 6. 2021:

On January 6, 2021, there was a significant event in the United States known as the Capitol riot. A group of supporters of then-President Donald Trump stormed the U.S. Capitol building in Washington, D.C., while Congress was in session to certify the Electoral College results of the 2020 presidential election. The riot resulted in the evacuation of lawmakers, damage to the Capitol building, and the deaths of several individuals. It was a moment that had a profound impact on American politics and society.

Following the events of January 6, 2021, Donald Trump faced several consequences. First, he was impeached by the House of Representatives for “incitement of insurrection.” The Senate later acquitted him in a trial, however, as the required two-thirds majority vote for conviction was not reached.

Additionally, Trump faced widespread criticism and condemnation from both Democrats and some Republicans for his role in the events leading up to the Capitol riot. He was also banned from various social media platforms, including Twitter and Facebook, due to concerns about his potential to incite further violence.

It is worth noting that the consequences faced by Trump are a matter of ongoing debate and discussion, and opinions on the matter vary widely.
