‘Godzilla X Kong’ Director Teases Threat Of New Villain Skar King

Skar King is set to be the villain in Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire. The film’s director, Adam Wingard, teases the threat posed by the MonsterVerse’s newest kaiju.

Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire is a massive step forward for the MonsterVerse, introducing two totally original kaijus to face off against the titular heroes. The more notable of the two villains is the Skar King, a fellow giant ape similar to King Kong. According to the film’s director Adam Wingard, the Skar King is the most dangerous threat Godzilla and Kong have faced so far:

“What’s interesting about this new film is that we go in a direction that I don’t think this series has ever seen before,” Adam Wingard explained in the latest issue of TotalFilm magazine. “Which is that the Skar King is, in a way, the closest that the human threat has ever been juxtaposed onto a titan itself”

“The Skar King almost represents an upscaled version of the worst parts of humanity, just as Kong represents some of the best parts of humanity. I would say the Skar King is the greatest threat that we’ve seen in these movies. It’s really going to take a full team together to bring it down because it’s too big for just one titan!”

Given so much of the prior movie teased the ancestral home of King Kong, it only makes sense that the Skar King builds upon that in Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire. The MonsterVerse is evolving, and it only makes sense their kaiju villains evolve with it. Here’s to hoping that the Skar King lives up to his name as a true villain worthy to rival both Godzill and King Kong.

The return of the MonsterVerse franchise

Fans of the MonsterVerse are sure to be excited by the prospect of seeing these two iconic monsters teaming up once again. The previous film, Godzilla vs. Kong, was a massive success, earning $470.1 million at the worldwide box office. With the promise of even more epic battles and a deeper exploration of the MonsterVerse mythology, The New Empire is sure to be another hit.

Legendary’s MonsterVerse began with 2014’s Godzilla and has since grown to include Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and Godzilla vs. Kong. At the heart of the franchise has been the secret monster-hunting organization Monarch.

One thing that fans can be sure of is that Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire will continue to explore the complex relationship between Godzilla and King Kong, two of the most iconic movie monsters of all time. The previous film saw the two Titans face off before teaming up to stop Mechagodzilla.

Director Adam Wingard is back for the Godzilla vs. Kong sequel, with a star-studded cast that includes Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Kaylee Hottle, Dan Stevens and Fala Chen. Terry Rossio, Jeremy Slater, Simon Barrett wrote the script.
