Colorado state representative Lauren Boebert‘s ex-husband, Jayson Boebert, has reportedly been arrested on charges of weapons and assault just a few days after the former couple were involved in a physical altercation at a restaurant.
On Tuesday, Jayson was charged with third-degree assault, trespassing in the third degree, harassment, hindering a peace officer, and prohibited use of firearms.
Lauren Boebert’s Ex-Husband Charged With Assault
According to a new report, the public fight between Jayson Boebert was taken into police custody on Tuesday, three days after he and his ex-wife, Lauren, got into an argument, which allegedly led to the politician punching him twice in the face.
While it’s unclear if his arrest is linked to their fight at Miners Claim restaurant, the 42-year-old has reportedly been charged with third-degree assault, trespassing in the third degree, harassment, hindering a peace officer, and prohibited use of firearms.
Per the Daily Beast, all of the charges against Jayson are misdemeanors, with the exception of trespassing, which is considered a minor violation and is punishable by up to ten days in jail, a fine, or both.
He has reportedly been released on a $2,500 bail.
Following the altercation, Jayson claimed that he was the victim of “domestic violence,” telling the Daily Beast that Lauren punched him multiple times in the face.
The Colorado State Rep. Denied Punching Her Ex-Husband
The Colorado state rep who is being investigated by police has since denied ever punching her ex-husband Jayson.
The 36-year-old told People magazine via a spokesperson, “This is a sad situation for all that keeps escalating and another reason I’m moving. I didn’t punch Jayson in the face and no one was arrested. I will be consulting with my lawyer about the false claims he made against me and evaluate all of my legal options.”
As previously reported, Silt Police Lt. Matt Gronbeck, who spoke with TMZ, revealed that police were summoned to Miner’s Claim, a restaurant in Silt, Colorado, on Saturday night.
Eyewitnesses at the scene told the News Outlet that Jayson entered the eatery where Lauren was seated and that the two got into an arguement until the congresswoman punched him twice in the nose. After the alleged altercation, Lauren then proceeded to call the cops on her ex-husband, who was ordered to leave the place.
Jayson, at the time, spoke on the alleged fight, saying: “I made a mistake. We both overreacted. I only want what’s best for my boys, and I still love her very much. I only want the best for her. I really don’t know what to say. It’s sad what has happened to us. I forgive her. I know she has a lot of hurt and pain. We both do.”
Lauren Boebert Filed For Divorce From Jayson Boebert
Lauren confirmed her split from Jayson in May 2023 after filed for divorce, citing “irreconcilable differences.”
The couple finalized their divorce by October of last year. They allegedly shared a passionate kiss and proceeded to have lunch together after the ending the legal procedure, with Lauren even breaking down in tears.
Jayson has been very open about his love and affection for the congresswoman, claiming that he “regrets” the choices he made that led to the end of their 20-year marraige.
“Throughout our 20 years together, she has been my rock, my confidant, and my best friend,” he told the Daily Mail. “Her unwavering commitment to our family has been truly admirable, and I am devastated by the pain I have caused her.”
Jayson continued, “I take full responsibility for my actions, and I deeply regret the choices I made that led to the breakdown of our marriage.”
He added that he “was unfaithful to Lauren in so many ways” and that he should have “brought [his] best.”
Jayson also shut down the rumors about why Lauren divorce him. He said, “It upsets me that everyone believes she left me over fame or a new lifestyle. That is far from the truth…Much of this is on me because the problem starts at the root. I am the root.”
