Former First Lady Melania Trump shared the heartbreaking news of her mother’s passing in a post on X on Tuesday evening.

“It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing of my beloved mother, Amalija. Amalija Knavs was a strong woman who always carried herself with grace, warmth, and dignity. She was entirely devoted to her husband, daughters, grandson, and son-in-law. We will miss her beyond measure and continue to honor and love her legacy,” Trump wrote. According to TMZ, Knavs has recently fallen ill, but the cause of her death was not revealed.
During a New Year’s Eve gathering at Mar-a-Lago, Donald Trump shared with the crowd that Amalija had fallen seriously ill, hinting at a hospitalization in Miami. Melania was absent at the event, and the former president sent his well wishes to his mother-in-law.

Amalija Knavs, of European descent, immigrated to the United States alongside her husband, Victor, and became a U.S. citizen in 2018. Melania proudly highlighted her parents’ naturalization, emphasizing their journey to citizenship after initially arriving in America through green card sponsorships, with their daughter’s support.
Amalija and Melania shared a close bond, and their relationship grew stronger over the years. Amalija had also formed a special connection with her grandson, Barron. In recent times, she resided at Mar-a-Lago, and prior to that, she spent part of her time at the White House, where she was often seen alongside her family.
The former First Lady’s supporters also expressed their condolences and offered words of comfort during this saddening time.
