The long-awaited Five Nights at Freddy’s movie ended up being a big hit for Blumhouse and Universal Pictures, and they have plans to build out the franchise with multiple sequels.

According to a new report, the first of these sequels will be coming next year! The studio is looking to start shooting Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 in the spring, and they are looking to release it Halloween 2024.

It’s funny because it took over a decade to get the first movie made and released! Now they think they will be able to pump out a good sequel in less than a year. I hope that they can pull it off! It seems like a rush job, and that worries me. They must already have a script written.

The game franchise consists of 13 video games and over 30 novels, so it makes sense that Blumhouse would want to expand that into a film franchise.

The director of the film, Emma Tammi, was previously asked about the future of the franchise and if she’d be willing to visit some of the other Five Nights at Freddy’s settings, like “Circus Baby’s Pizza World,” or the “Mega Pizzaplex,” home to the Glamrock models of the animatronics. She explained that she’s excited about exploring the universe further, saying:

“I am not closing the door to that at all. I would be so excited to pursue additional films in this world … so, fingers crossed.”

The Five Nights at Freddy’s movie includes a lot of references and Easter eggs to look out for that lays the groundwork for future films. Also, there’s the fact that one of the film’s stars, Matthew Lillard, has already teased that Five Nights at Freddy’s is going to have at least three movies. Blum previously talked about the future of the franchise, saying:

“Well, I think the right video games make great source material for movies. I mean, you saw that even with [The Super Mario Bros. Movie]. It’s a different genre, but it was an amazingly successful movie. I certainly hope that’s the case [with Five Nights at Freddy’s]. James [Wan] is actually a big gamer and we have a games division of our company that we’ve been working on. I’m definitely looking forward to finding more games that are popular and that we could turn into horror movies.”

The first movie was released on October 27th of this year and pulled in more than $300 million at the box office on a $25 million budget. The movie was released in theaters and on Peacock simultaneously.

The film follows “a troubled security guard as he begins working at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. While spending his first night on the job, he realizes the night shift at Freddy’s won’t be so easy to make it through.” There are ghost children who are posing as giant animatronics that are out to terrorize.
