It seems as though DC Studios is heading into 2024 in full swing! James Gunn has taken to social media to show off the group being called the Architects of the DC Universe.
James Gunn has made it a point to show that DC Studios is going to be a production house defined by its creatives, and it certainly seems he’s sticking by that choice. In a recent post to social media, Gunn gave a heartfelt goodbye to the crazy year that was 2023, all the while ringing in the new year with a first look at the minds behind the upcoming DC Universe reboot:
“2023 what a year!” James Gunn wrote in a recent post on Threads. “A lot of my favorite moments I can’t post because of spoilers, but here are a few from getaways to premieres to writers rooms to publicity tours to spreading my dad’s ashes in Ireland. 2023 was a year of hard work and incredible challenges – but so many wonderful moments within all that. Family, friends, dogs, and films forever. Thanks to everyone who made this year so great.❤️ 2023”
Many of the faces in the photo should look familiar to those keeping up with the news surrounding DC Studios. Obviously co-chairs Peter Safran and James Gunn make an appearance. However, they’re joined by familiar faces previously confirmed to be working with them on the new DC Universe such as Chantal Nong Vo, Christina Hodson, Christal Henry, Tom King, Jeremy Slater, Drew Goddard and Galen Vaisman.
It’s clear James Gunn has a large group of friends ready to help him build the new DC Universe. With cameras set to roll on Superman: Legacy in just a few months, it seems the future of DC Studios is finally looking bright. Let’s just hope it sticks that way!
The future of the DC Universe
James Gunn and Peter Safran told journalists that their vision for the DC Universe includes locked scripts, wiggle room, and a unified storyline across film, television, animation, and video game projects. The two explained that the DC Universe could bring back elements from previous DC regimes, meaning that their eight-to-year plan is not a full reboot.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods, The Flash, Blue Beetle, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom have all been released following the announcement of the new DC Universe, all four projects struggling at the box office. Will the characters from those movies make appearances in the new DCU? Only Gunn and Safran know.
