Vincent D’Onofrio makes his big return as Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin in Marvel’s Echo, which will be released later this month. He is so good in this role and it will be interesting to see where his story arc will go in the MCU. The actor recently was a guest on Jake’s Takes and during that interview, he talked about his character and revealed which heroes in the MCU he believes are capable of taking down The Kingpin, and there are only two. He explained:
“This is a very difficult question, because I don’t see that happening. I don’t see Kingpin dying. Kingpin never died in the canon of the comic books, so that’s very difficult. I’ll talk in terms of who could come close to it.
“I think that it would have to be either Daredevil or Spider-Man…together, the two of them together, maybe. But I don’t see Kingpin going away. He never did when I was a kid, so I don’t expect he will now.”
It makes sense that it would have to be Daredevil and Spider-Man, especially with their long history with the villain. I would love nothing more than for D’Onofrio’s Kingpin to have a long life in the MCU. There are rumors that The Kingpin and Daredevil will be a part of the Spider-Man 4 story, but that has yet to be confirmed or denied.
In a separate interview with CB, Echo producer Richie Palmer was asked about the potential of Kingpin being a major recurring villain in the MCU, and Palmer sounded optimistic about the idea, saying:
“I want to see that. I think stay tuned to how this show ends and where we see him next. As a Kingpin fan myself, that sounds awesome and I know Vincent would love it.”
After Echo, Kingpin will show up again in Daredevil: Born Again. After that, we’ll just have to wait and see! When previously talking about Daredevil: Born Again, D’Onofrio said:
“I think it’s definitely a new show. It’s not the Netflix show. It’s definitely a new show. mean, all I can say is that Charlie [Cox] and I are not bored. We are having a great time. We have a great cast, and I think everybody else is having a great time too. Charlie’s one of my favorite people, and I know that he comes here every day ready to knock it out of the park and you know how I am, I’m totally into this part, so I’m there for the same reason.
“We’re really just delivering. It’s a lot of work. Charlie’s amazing because he has to do all the stunts and stuff, so he’s in constant training and learning different things. But the scenes are great. I’m trying to skirt around specifics, but I can only say that it is a different show and it feels like a different show.”
The series is currently going through some big changes with a whole new creative team. But, fans are hoping that Marvel delivers a badass show! What would you like to see from Kingpin in the future of the MCU?
Echo premieres on Disney+ on January 9th, while Daredevil: Born Again is going to be released in 2025 or 2026.
