Almost a year after walking her last red carpet, Applegate who is battling multiple sclerosis (MS), made a shocking appearance at the award show to the utmost delight of the audience and viewers.
Christina Applegate Receives Standing Ovation For Surprise Emmys Appearance
The Emmys started on a high with host Anthony Anderson announcing her presence to present the award for Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series category — which was won by Ayo Edebiri.Applegate looked breathtaking in a gorgeous velvet red dress featuring a plunging neckline and long train. The “Married with Children” alum held a sparkly cane and was accompanied down the stage by Anderson, who held her hand.
The actress’ emotion was met with cheers and a standing ovation from the audience, which made Applegate overwhelmed with emotion as she tried to fight back her tears. “You’re totally shaming me with disability by standing up, but it’s OK, “Applegate joked before adding, “Body not by Ozempic.”
The “Dead To Me” actress referenced her debut role in “Grey’s Anatomy” before announcing the nominees and presenting the award. Applegate’s presence at the award show was met with blissful remarks online from loyal fans.

Christina Applegate Got Emotional During Last Red Carpet Appearance
Applegate made her last red carpet appearance at the 2023 SAG Awards on February 26, 2023. She was joined by her daughter Sadie for the emotional moment. The 52-year-old showed up in style with a cane that featured “FU MS” embellished in rhinestones on it for assistance. The cane also featured her daughter’s name.
She donned a black velvet tuxedo-style gown with red lipstick and a loose wavy hairstyle. Applegate was nominated for Outstanding Performances by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series but lost to Jean Smart of “Hacks.”
The award-winning actress explained that it was her “last awards show as an actor” due to her debilitating health. Applegate, who has had to give up acting due to her battle with Multiple Sclerosis — which she was diagnosed with in 2021 — said in a previous interview:
“Right now, I couldn’t imagine getting up at 5 a.m. and spending 12 to 14 hours on a set; I don’t have that in me at this moment.”
