The sports world has lost another star. Football fans are currently mourning the loss of Ronald Powell, a talented former NFL linebacker. At the young age of 32, Powell’s life was tragically cut short, leaving behind a legacy that will forever be remembered.

The news of Powell’s passing was shared by his former college football teammate, Junior Galette, who expressed his heartbreak on social media. Galette’s heartfelt message spoke of Powell’s qualities as an excellent father, a respected brother, and a loving son. The pain in Galette’s words resonated with fans and friends alike, as they struggled to come to terms with the loss of a remarkable individual.

“I Love You Forever till we meet again,” Galette wrote on the social media app on Monday night. “An EXCELLENT FATHER. Respected Brother and a Loving Son. I am saddened to share with the rest of the world that Ronald Powell Transitioned Earlier today. REST IN POWER RONALD POWELL.” Galette did not share the cause of death.

The NFL Players Association also said in a post Tuesday on X, “Today we mourn the loss of Ronald Powell — a father, a brother, and a son who was loved and cherished by so many. We send comfort to all those who knew Ronald,” the association wrote.

More On Ronald Powell:

Powell’s football journey began at Rancho Verde High School in California, where he showcased his immense talent as a versatile player. Excelling in multiple positions such as defensive end, linebacker, and tight end, Powell’s skills on the field were undeniable. His senior year was particularly remarkable, with 13 sacks and 28 tackles for losses, solidifying his status as a five-star college recruit and the top player in his class.

Committing to the Florida Gators, Powell’s college career faced numerous challenges due to injuries, including two torn ACLs. Despite these setbacks, he continued to demonstrate his resilience and determination, amassing 11 sacks, two pass deflections, and a forced fumble over three seasons.

In 2014, Powell’s dreams of playing in the NFL became a reality when he was selected by the New Orleans Saints in the draft. However, his professional career was unfortunately plagued by further obstacles. Limited to only 14 games, Powell’s potential remained largely untapped, leaving fans and teammates yearning for what could have been.

Undeterred by setbacks, Powell refused to let his love for the game waver. In 2018, he found himself playing for the Orlando Apollos in the Alliance of American Football, showcasing his unwavering passion and dedication to the sport he adored.

As news of Powell’s untimely passing spreads, the football community comes together to remember a man who left an indelible mark on the game. His talent, perseverance, and love for football will forever be etched in the memories of those who had the privilege of witnessing his journey.
