Hardwell is planting a fusion of beats and blooms in the heart of Amsterdam after an honorary tulip was named after the DJ, his team tells EDM.com.
In observation of Amsterdam’s National Tulip Day, Hardwell opened the holiday’s festivities to start off the city’s most vibrant time of the year. During the celebration on January 20th, a new tulip variety called “Tulipa Hardwell” was named in the Dutch dance music icon’s honor.
With its bold color, the flower fittingly symbolizes not only Hardwell’s heritage, but also his persevering influence in the electronic dance music community.
“I’m proud of my Dutch heritage, and so I’m truly honored to have a tulip named after me,” Hardwell said in a statement shared with EDM.com. “The flower is, of course, an icon of the Netherlands, but also a symbol of happiness, love, good luck and the power of nature’s rhythm. So, I’m thrilled to be a part of connecting the positive vibrancy of the dance floor to the joyful energy of a tulip for this year’s ‘Let’s Dance!’ theme on National Tulip Day. I hope this new ‘Hardwell’ tulip will be a positive reminder of the music that unites us and those dancefloor moments we live for.”
According to Tulip Festival Amsterdam, the event’s 2023 edition drew in over 18,000 attendees from across the globe. 2024 marks the festival’s 12th anniversary, where the theme of “Let’s Dance!” could not have been more fitting.
“It is a very good reason for us to pay tribute to Hardwell with his own tulip,” added Arjan Smit, President of Tulip Promotion Netherlands. “He is one of the most popular DJs in the world, and his shows are, just like the tulip, full of energy. Tulips even have the unique ability to ‘dance’ a little in the vase. They continue to grow for a while, and each flower turns in the direction it wants.”
