A woman from Brooklyn, New York has been arrested and charged after driving the wrong way and running over an NYPD officer with her car, allegedly claiming she “did it on purpose.”
Shocking dash camera footage has surfaced online showing the moment an NYPD officer was mowed down by a wrong-way driver on Park Avenue earlier this week. The driver has been identified as 24-year-old Sahara Dula, who allegedly admitted to investigators during interrogation that she did ran over the officer on purpose.

On Wednesday afternoon (January 17), NYPD Officer Ruchiran Dias was guarding another vehicle linked to an unrelated high-end retail robbery on Madison Avenue when he noticed Dula traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of Park Avenue.
Dias attempted to approach and question Dula, who was behind the wheel of a Lexus, when she suddenly accelerated and struck the officer, causing him to fly over the hood of her car and eventually land on the pavement.

Dula appeared in court on Friday (January 19), where she was arraigned on seven charges, including aggravated assault on a police officer with a deadly weapon. In court documents, she allegedly confessed to investigators about the crime.
The documents reportedly state that she allegedly admitted to having just smoked cannabis and said, “[expletive] these cops; he wouldn’t move. I told the cop I wanted to go straight, and he would not move so I hit him. I did it on purpose.”
Dula is currently being held on $25,000 cash bail and has been jailed on Rikers Island. She is due back in court on January 23.

According to PBA President Patrick Hendry, who visited Officer Dias in the hospital after suffering a broken leg and other injuries, Dula “knocked him straight to the ground. He could have been killed. We believe she tried to kill him. It’s clear she tried to mow down a New York City police officer. The criminal justice system is broken.”
It’s also reported that assaults on NYPD cops are reportedly up 40% over the past two years. Hendry added, “Until these people are punished for assaulting New York City police officers, they’re going to continue.”
Meanwhile, in court, Dula’s attorney, Patricia Wright, told PIX11 News that she suffers from bipolar disorder, is on medication, and is seeking treatment for mental health. Without sharing anything more, Wright instead added that further details will be shared in court and that each defendant is “presumed innocent until proven guilty.”
