In an interview with NBC Today, Kevin James — who just released his stand-up comedy Irregardless on Prime Video — ruled out the possibilities of The King of Queens reboot.

The CBS sitcom ran for nine seasons from 1998 to 2007 and starred James and Leah Remini as Doug and Carrie Heffernan, respectively. Some fans of the beloved comedy, which will celebrate its 26th anniversary this year, are still hoping for a revival.

However, James seems to not be onboard with the idea and will presumably never change his mind for one reason alone: Jerry Stiller.

“You cannot do it because of Jerry [Stiller]. How do you do that without Jerry? He was amazing,” James told NBC Today, where he also discussed his new comedy special, his iconic moments from The King of Queens, and becoming a famous internet meme. You can check out his interview down below:

Stiller — who played Arthur Spooner in the hit sitcom — died of natural causes in 2020, his son Ben Stiller confirmed on Twitter (now called X). The comedy veteran was 92.

The King of Queens cast pays tribute to the late Jerry Stiller

The cast of the popular CBS sitcom virtually reunited to celebrate the show’s 25th anniversary last year. Series creator Michael Weithorn, Gary Valentine, Victor Williams, Patton Oswalt, James, Remini, and more paid homage to the late comedian during a table read Q&A session and has even presented a video revisiting Stiller’s life and legacy.

The synopsis for The King of Queens reads: “Life’s good for deliveryman Doug Heffernan until his newly widowed father-in-law, Arthur, moves in with him and his wife Carrie. Doug is no longer the king of his domain, and instead of having a big screen television in his recently renovated basement, he now has a crazy old man.”

The King of Queens is available to stream on Peacock.
