After Barbie director Greta Gerwig and star Margot Robbie were snubbed by the Oscars, Hollywood took to social media to share their reactions.

John Stamos got his wife Caitlin McHugh in a funny video he shared on Instagram using the voices of Robbie’s Barbie and Ryan Gosling’s Ken in a scene from the movie.

“This one goes out to Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie who crafted a film that was both a critical success and a cultural phenomenon, delving into feminist themes through the lens of Barbie and challenging patriarchal norms,” Stamos captioned the video. “This movie not only resonated deeply, but also grossed OVER a billion dollars. Yet, in a twist of irony, both women were snubbed by the Academy. Everyone go re-watch Barbie tonight.”

Simu Liu, who was a Ken in the Barbie film, expressed his thoughts on the Gerwig and Robbie snub.

“Being involved in a small way gave me a window into just how hard Greta and Margot had to fight to get Barbie made, and how flawlessly they executed,” he posted on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. “Together they started a movement, touched the world and reinvigorated the cinema. They deserve everything. They ARE everything.”

Michelle Yeoh made an appearance on the Today show, where she was asked about the snubs.

“You know, joy and disappointment, it seems to go hand in hand,” Yeoh said. “It’s just, for us, it’s like, it’s not enough nominations to go around.”

She continued, “The only take is like, it’s so competitive out there and there is no guarantee because you’re not the only voter, you know? It’s widespread. Thank God the movie got nominated for Best Picture. But you do think, ‘How do you get nominated for Best Picture but not Best Director and not Best Actress?’”

Although Gerwig and Robbie didn’t get nominated in the Best Director and Best Actress categories, respectively, they did land nods for Best Adapted Screenplay for Gerwig and Best Picture for Robbie as one of the producers of the film.

“It happens and I’m sorry it happened to them because it’s obviously one of the most successful and beloved movies. Look at the box office,” Yeoh added.
