Two individuals have sued comedian and actor Pauly Shore for an alleged assault inside The Comedy Store in West Hollywood, Los Angeles.
According to the legal documents obtained by The Blast, Shore is being sued for “Battery,” “Assault,” and “Intentional Infliction of Emotional Distress,” amongst other things.
The lawsuit comes amid Shore’s announcement that he’ll be playing famed fitness instructor Richard Simmons in a biopic.
Pauly Shore Sued For Alleged Battery And Assault
Shore, who is currently in the spotlight for his upcoming role in a Richard Simmons biopic, has been hit with a major lawsuit by two persons identified as Sean Kehoe and his daughter Kirra Lyn Potts.
Both Kehoe and Potts claim that Shore caused them “serious injuries” following an assault incident at The Comedy Store.
According to the legal documents, the father-daughter duo were guests at the comedy club on November 30, 2022, when Kehoe was “violently grabbed and attacked” by security personnel linked to Shore. The document also states that Shore was aware that there was a plan to assault Kehoe and that he allegedly “encouraged” the attack.
As you know, Shore is the owner of The Comedy Store.
Kehoe’s daughter claims in the suit that witnessing her father get attacked at the club has caused her severe “emotional distress.”
The pair have brought up six causes of action against Shore and the comedy club where they were attacked. These include; “battery,” “assault,” “intentional infliction of emotional distress,” “negligence,” “premises liability,” and “negligence in the hiring of unfit employees.”
The lawsuit isn’t clear what caused the alleged attack, but the duo are seeking compensation in the form of damages. They also want their attorney fees covered and for “repayment of all damages incurred” in the course of the alleged attack.
Pauly Shore has yet to respond to the lawsuit.
Pauly Shore Set To Star As Richard Simmons In Biopic
The assault and battery allegations against the comedian come amid news of his role as fitness instructor Richard Simmons in an upcoming biopic.
Prior to his confirmation that he’ll be portraying the iconic fitness guru, Shore shared his excitement about “sharing Richard Simmons’s life with the world,” eulogizing him and stating that he “represented mental health” and “getting people in shape.”
He previously claimed that he’s playing by the rules after revealing that he has tried to make contact with the former “Richard Simmons Show” host, who has been out of the spotlight for years.
“I’ve noticed all the reactions to me playing Richard Simmons in a new biopic,” Shore wrote on Facebook in September last year. “I heard he’s living deep in Big Bear. We’ve been playing phone tag (yes, he still has a phone). I’m trying to make it happen for you guys. Be optimistic.”
He continued, “In the meantime, hit up Hulu, Amazon, Disney, HBO, and all the big producers. I definitely can morph into this guy. I’ll see you at the Academy Awards 2025.”
Simmons himself has since decried the project, noting on Facebook that he “never” permitted a biopic to be made about him.
He said, “Hi Everybody! You may have heard they may be doing a movie about me with Pauly Shore. I have never given my permission for this movie. So don’t believe everything you read.”
