David Corenswet is officially set to play the Man of Steel in Superman: Legacy. According to director James Gunn, he may already be too big for the role!

James Gunn has once more taken to social media to answer a spree of questions from DC Universe fans. The common theme this time around was his experience with Hollywood, which included a question about screen tests. In answering it, the director revealed David Corenswet did a screen test for Superman: Legacy but had trouble fitting into his superhero suit due to his height.

“Yes everyone who screen tested was screen tested in the previous suit,” James Gunn revealed on Threads before adding “(although David [Corenswet] had a hard time fitting as he’s so tall!)”

It’s not surprising David Corenswet had a hard time fitting into the suit given the actor is  6ft 4in, so about 3 inches taller than previous Superman actor Henry Cavill. While it was standard procedure, it likely would’ve been a treat to see Corenswet wear the test screening suit. Though given how busy James Gunn is working on Superman: Legacy, it’s not likely he’ll find the time to dig up the picture.

What to expect from Superman’s DC Universe debut

Superman: Legacy is a much-anticipated project, given that Clark Kent has been an integral part of the DC Universe for over 80 years, with various iterations and adaptations across different media. The movie promises to explore the character’s origins and his struggles to balance his dual identities as Clark and Superman while fighting off villains and saving the world. The choice to focus on the early years of his career is a bold move that could potentially breathe new life into the character and appeal to a younger generation of fans.

James Gunn and Peter Safran told journalists that their vision for the DC Universe includes locked scripts, wiggle room, and a unified storyline across film, television, animation, and video game projects. The two explained that the DC Universe could bring back elements from previous DC regimes, meaning that their eight-to-year plan is not a full reboot.

Superman: Legacy is currently scheduled to hit theaters on July 11, 2025. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
