EXCLUSIVE: WTFilms has snapped up international sales rights for Dutch directorial duo Steffan Haars and Flip Van Der Kuil’s English-language debut Krazy House following its world premiere at Sundance.
The gory, comedy-horror, putting a fresh spin on the family sitcoms of the 1990s, co-stars Nick Frost (Hot Fuzz, The World’s End) as meek-mannered, bumbling homemaker Bernie opposite Alicia Silverstone (Clueless) as his stressed-out, breadwinner wife.
Their humdrum existence is upended by the arrival of Russian mobsters on the doorstep posing as maintenance men. Bernie is forced to man-up in defense of his family as their home descends into blood-splattered chaos and violence.
The movie debuted in Sundance’s The Midnights section and then made its European premiere in Rotterdam’s Limelight section over the past weekend.
Dutch directorial duo Steffen & Flip are best known internationally for their teen TV series New Kids. They adapted the show to the big screen with the 2010 feature New Kids Turbo, which grossed some $18M worldwide.
Krazy House marks their first film in seven years after Dutch-language action-comedy Ron Goossens, Low Budget Stuntman about an alcoholic stuntman trying to get his life back on track.
Maarten Swart lead produced the film under the banner of his Amsterdam company Kaap Holland Film. Splendid Films has Dutch rights. XYZ are handling North America.
