Milly Alcock has officially been cast as Supergirl, replacing Sasha Calle! James Gunn has revealed why he wanted to bring the House of the Dragon actress into his new DC Universe.
Fans were split on who should play Supergirl when the finalists for the role were leaked online. While some were convinced of Milly Alcock immediately, others preferred candidates like Meg Donnelly, or even insisted Sasha Calle should reprise the role following her work in The Flash. While Gunn ultimately went with Alcock, it seems the director wanted her in the DC Universe ever since he saw House of the Dragon.
“Strangely, Milly was the FIRST person I brought up to Peter for this role, well over a year ago, when I had only read the comics,” James Gunn revealed on Threads. “I was watching House of the Dragon & thought she might have the edge, grace & authenticity we needed for the DCU’s Supergirl. And now here we are. Life is wild sometimes.”
While Milly Alcock will make her big screen debut as Supergirl in Superman: Legacy, it’s clear James Gunn has big plans for the character in the DC Universe. She already has her own solo film on the way with Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, with Alcock’s starring role in House of the Dragon proving her ability to carry a project of that magnitude.
Who Is Superman: Woman of Tomorrow writer Ana Nogueira?
As Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow begins to take shape under Ana Nogueira’s pen, the project is still in its early stages, with several key components yet to be finalized. The film does not have a director attached, nor has a release date been set, reflecting the recent closure of Nogueira’s deal.
Ana Nogueira may be familiar to readers from her acting stints on The Vampire Diaries, The Michael J. Fox Show and The Blacklist. Beyond her acting achievements, Nogueira has also carved out a successful career in writing. Her play Which Way to the Stage made its off-Broadway debut in 2022. She is also involved in adapting the short story Mothers, Lock Up Your Daughters for Warner Bros. and 21 Laps.
