Taylor Swift caught a lot of backlash online after being accused of snubbing legendary songstress Céline Dion at the 2024 Grammys. Now, it’s been reported that her PR team caught the misstep and immediately went into damage control, scrambling for a backstage photo as a quick fix.

On Sunday evening (February 4), Céline Dion, who has been battling a rare neurological syndrome called stiff-person syndrome, attended the 66th Annual Grammy Awards as a surprise presenter. 55-year-old Dion, who made the revelation about her diagnosis in December 2022, came out onstage, arm-in-arm, with her son Rene-Charles.
Dion went on to read the winner for the Album of the Year, and it was Swift. While making her way onto the stage, Swift grabbed her trophy from Dion, without even acknowledging or making eye contact with the legendary singer handing her the award.

As the live Grammys event went on, social media quickly stormed the internet to call out Taylor Swift for seemingly snubbing Céline Dion, a legend who helped pave the way for her. One user on X (formerly Twitter) wrote, “Taylor Swift just took the album of the year trophy from Celine Dion without batting an eye and/or acknowledging that a legendary 🐐 was handing her the award. So cringey for my soul.”
Another wrote, “Taylor Swift receives her Grammy from the GOAT Celine Dion and she doesn’t even make eye contact with her. Disrespectful.” A third user wrote, “Taylor Swift not saying thank you to Celine Dion or even addressing her After the year Celine’s had not being able to perform was classless. I’m honestly shocked. Celine deserves better.”

Meanwhile, other users compared Taylor Swift’s snubbing of Céline Dion at the Grammys to Miley Cyrus‘ praising of Mariah Carey, who presented for her when she won one of her first-ever Grammy awards.
Immediately after the incident, users speculated that Taylor Swift’s PR team (Public Relations) tried to seek damage control and quickly scrambled to grab a backstage photo of Swift and Célion Dion hugging and smiling for the camera. The following morning, it was seemingly confirmed that’s exactly what happened.

On Monday’s (February 5) episode of Spotify’s The Town with Matthew Belloni podcast, Bloomberg reporter Lucas Shaw hopped on and broke down all that went down at Sunday night’s Grammys show.
During the episode, Taylor Swift’s multiple trophy wins were discussed along with her viral moment with Céline Dion. A source on-site at the Grammys told Matthew Belloni that T-Swift’s team “immediately” knew they had to do some damage control after the live, on-stage moment.
Belloni said, “I talked to someone who was backstage and the Taylor camp knew immediately it was a misstep, and they were scrambling backstage to get a photo of Taylor with Céline Dion, which they promptly put out and that was damage control for the Céline moment.”
He added, “Traditionally, the PR people will say when you go on stage, ‘Make sure you acknowledge the person who is giving you the award.’ … Taylor typically knows better than to grab the award and try to summon pals to celebrate their big win.”
