The legal battle between the estate of Griselda Blanco, a notorious Colombian drug queen, and Netflix has come to an end.
As we previously reported, the family filed a lawsuit against the streaming giant, claiming that their images and likenesses were used without proper authorization in the limited series “Griselda.” Griselda Blanco’s last surviving son, Michael Blanco, and his wife, Marie Blanco, initiated the lawsuit against Netflix and actor/executive producer Sofia Vergara in January. Their aim was to halt the release of the limited series and seek damages for the unauthorized use of their family’s images and likenesses.
The suit alleged that the show’s creators had utilized Michael Blanco’s “private artistic literary work” without permission or credit, causing “irreparable harm.”
However, according to court records obtained by Business Insider, the family’s counsel dismissed the complaint with prejudice on February 9. This dismissal signifies that the lawsuit cannot be refiled. Though the terms of the settlement have not been disclosed, it brings an end to the legal dispute surrounding the series Alain bringing closure to the contentious dispute.

Response from the Creator and the Family:
Eric Newman, the creator of “Griselda,” appeared unfazed by the lawsuit when it was initially filed. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, he mentioned that similar claims were made by the Escobar family during his time as a showrunner on “Narcos.” Newman expressed confidence in the story they wanted to tell, stating that it did not prevent others from sharing their own version of events.
On the other hand, Michael Blanco, after watching the series, described the experience as “very emotional.” •
Success of the Series
Despite the legal controversy surrounding its release, “Griselda” quickly gained popularity on Netflix. In its debut week, the limited series became the most-watched title on the platform, reaching the number one spot in 89 countries, as reported by Variety. The series has received positive reviews, holding an 88 percent critics rating and a 71 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
While the lawsuit may have caused initial concerns, the success of the series demonstrates its appeal to audiences worldwide. The settlement allows both parties to move forward, closing a chapter in the ongoing legacy of Griselda Blanco.
