In a disturbing incident occurring in Overland, St. Louis County, an altercation at a Wendy’s drive-thru escalated into violence and vehicle theft on Monday.

Leon S. Johnson, a 27-year-old employee of the fast-food chain, has been formally charged with a series of offenses, including first-degree assault, third-degree assault, dual counts of misdemeanor assault, vehicle tampering, property damage, and resisting arrest.
The situation began when a customer and Johnson engaged in a physical confrontation, per a probable cause statement from the Overland Police Department. The dispute quickly escalated, with Johnson reportedly assaulting the customer through the open window of the latter’s car. The victim wielded a hammer to defend himself, aiming to deter Johnson. However, the situation intensified as the victim exited his car, leading Johnson to seize the opportunity to commandeer the vehicle and flee the scene, as reported by First Alert 4.

Johnson returned to the location shortly after, using the stolen vehicle to strike the victim. He then proceeded to further vandalize the car by smashing the windshield with the hammer, which the victim had dropped earlier during the altercation.
The incident took a further violent turn when Johnson, upon his arrest, assaulted two police officers by biting them. Currently, Johnson is being held at the St. Louis County Jail, with his bond set at a substantial $500,000, cash-only.
