Two of Marvel’s most beloved and most tragic characters in all of the MCU are Vision, played by Paul Bettany, and Wanda Maximoff aka Scarlet Witch, played by Elizabeth Olsen. While Wanda has a tragic backstory, the two were able to find love with one another until Vision ultimately met his demise, and Wanda has struggled since within the story told in their series, WandaVision. We have seen the star-crossed lovers in plenty of heart-breaking moments, but one scene in particular came about all because of improvisation between the pair.

Bettany explained at a MegaCon appearance (via Collider), that the initial plan for Vision’s death at the end of Avengers: Infinity War wasn’t working when the scene played out in front of the camera. So the Russo Brothers had a difficult request of both Bettany and Olsen. Bettany explained:

“[Directors] The Russo Brothers came up to us [Bettany and Olsen] and said, ‘Hey, listen, can you just improvise this scene?’ And I go, ‘What? Improvise being a robot getting killed?’ I’ve got no frame of reference! And Lizzie was just laughing at it, and we’re so relaxed with each other that… I don’t know how it would’ve worked other than that, because we both really trust each other and, somehow, we got to something that worked.”

I love every scene these two have done together. Their series was my favorite of the Disney+ Marvel shows, and I believe that these two actors were absolutely in sync enough to improvise any scene they had in front of them.

It’s unclear at this point what the future looks like in the MCU for Wanda, or even Vision for that matter. But for now, no plans are clear. Would you like to see Wanda’s story continue? Would you like to see Vision return?

‘Bring Them Down’ is probably one of the best films I’ve ever seen. A brutal and believable examination of old family grudges in rural communities. Superbly shot. Sharp and to the point. As beautiful a piece of art as it is a moral reminder of how anger can lose everyone the battle.
