Mo’Nique, finds herself in the spotlight once again, this time defending her parenting skills against her son’s recent criticism. As we previously reported, her firstborn son, Shalon Jackson, dropped at nearly 10-minute long TikTok video accusing his mother of being self-centered and a bad parent.
He said at the time, “My mother’s value had reached such a low point in my life that I no longer want to wait or relate to her.” The 34-year-old who has a daughter that Mo’Nique does not have contact with, added: “There is nothing we have to offer each other. Putting the work into being Mo’Nique was more important to her than being my mother.” Further into the video, Shalon also made multiple mentions of Mo’Nique’s husband – Sidney Hicks – who she publicly refers to as the “Daddy.”
Of course, Mo’Nique, along with her husband Sidney Hicks, wasted no time in responding to her son’s claims, providing a glimpse into their side of the story.

Mo’Nique began her response by acknowledging the critics who have questioned her mothering skills. She confidently stated, “Let’s let it play out. The same ones who said to me I was crazy and deranged, we watched it play out. So, just like with my son, we’ll watch this play out.” By alluding to past instances where she has proven her critics wrong, Mo’Nique suggests that she is confident in her ability to address her son’s claims. While Mo’Nique did not directly address the more stinging claims made by her son, she did address his disparaging remarks about her husband. Referring to Sidney Hicks as “Uncle Sid,” she emphasized that he has been a significant presence in her son’s life since before he even knew himself. Mo’Nique made it clear that Hicks cannot claim Shalon as his son, but he has always been there for him as a supportive figure. By highlighting the long-standing relationship between Hicks and Shalon’s biological father, Mo’Nique challenges her son’s perspective on their family dynamic.
To counter Shalon’s claims that they haven’t been there for him in times of need, Mo’Nique and Hicks provided specific examples of their support. They mentioned instances where they provided financial assistance and helped with down payments on cars.
As of now, Shalon Jackson has not responded to his mother’s reaction to his comments. However, the actress is now speaking out again this Wednesday morning to drop some “recipes.” Take a look:
