Production Wraps Ahead of 2027 Release

A second Back to Black poster has been released for the upcoming Amy Winehouse biopic from Focus Features. The poster puts Marisa Abela’s transformation into the pop singer on display. The film is set to hit theaters in the United States on Friday, May 10, 2024.

“Back to Black is a never-before-seen glimpse into Amy Winehouse’s early rise to fame and the release of her groundbreaking studio album, Back to Black,” reads the movie‘s official synopsis. “Told from Amy’s perspective, the film is an unapologetic look at the woman behind the phenomenon and the relationship that inspired one of the most legendary albums of all time.”

You can check out the new Back to Black poster below:

Winehouse was an English singer best known for her vocals and coverage of various genres in her music. Her debut album, Frank, was released in 2003 to critical acclaim, and her follow-up album, Back to Black, released in 2006, was a smash hit. The album became one of the best-selling albums in UK history, and the single “Rehab” remains immensely popular.

The film was made with the full support of Universal Music Group, Sony Music Publishing, and The Amy Winehouse Estate.

Who stars in Back to Black?

Marisa Abela (Industry) will star in the film as Winehouse. Other cast members set to appear in the film include Jack O’Connell (Ferrari), Eddie Marsan (Fair Play), and Lesley Manville (Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris).

The film is directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson from a script written by Matt Greenhalgh, who previously collaborated on 2009’s Nowhere Boy.
