In an imaginative leap into the DC Universe, Glen Powell dons the iconic suit of Booster Gold, as envisioned in a stunning piece of fan art for James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new vision for the DCU. With the announcement of a live-action Booster Gold project in January 2023, excitement has been building around who would step into the superhero’s shoes. This artwork not only brings to life the character but also ties into Gunn and Safran’s ambitious DCU chapter “Gods and Monsters.”
The artwork, created by a talented Instagram user who goes by “21XFOUR”, showcases Glen Powell in the full glory of Booster Gold’s costume, complete with glasses and a charismatic smile. This portrayal captures the essence of the character, blending heroism with a dash of humor, a combination that has become a signature of Powell’s roles.
Glen Powell’s career trajectory has been nothing short of impressive, particularly following his acclaimed role as Lieutenant Jake “Hangman” Seresin in Top Gun: Maverick. His recent ventures include a lead role in the romantic comedy Anyone But You opposite Sydney Sweeney. This potential casting as Booster Gold could further cement his status as a rising star in Hollywood, blending his knack for action with the comedic timing that Booster Gold demands.
Who is DC’s Booster Gold?
Booster Gold, or Michael Jon “M.J.” Carter, made his comic book debut in Booster Gold #1 in February 1986, thanks to creator Dan Jurgens. Originating from the future, Carter initially comes off as a fame-seeking hero, using his knowledge of historical events and advanced technology to stage spectacular rescues and garner public admiration. However, as his stories unfold, Booster Gold evolves beyond his showboat beginnings.
Booster Gold has previously made his mark in live-action television, portrayed by Eric Martsolf in Smallville and by Donald Faison in the seventh season of the Arrowverse series Legends of Tomorrow. Despite these memorable performances, the role has not yet been cast for the new DCU.
James Gunn and Peter Safran are on the verge of commencing production on the DC Universe’s first live-action movie, Superman: Legacy, slated for a 2025 release. While the Booster Gold project does not yet have a release date, Glen Powell could be a perfect fit for the role. Whether he ends up in the DCU remains to be seen.
