Director Matthew Vaughn has offered an update on Kick-Ass reboot and revealed that it will actually be the third film in a new trilogy he’s developing.

The filmmaker has been planning a reboot of Kick-Ass for a few years and he previously teased what he’s thinking regarding that film. The original Kick-Ass movie was released a decade ago and it introduced us to the characters Kick-Ass, Hit-Girl, and Big Daddy.

He explained: “Kick-Ass sort of changed people’s perception of what a superhero film is at that time. So we’re doing it again. So it’s none of the characters from the other Kick-Ass. We’d like to bring them back after the reboot, but this reboot is just going off on a tangent that I really can’t talk about. But it’s fun.”

In a recent interview with Collider, Vaughn explained that his new Kick-Ass movie, which will serve as a reboot, will actually be the third film in a new trilogy of movies, which is an interesting approach for a reboot.

The trilogy starts with an action movie titled School Fight which will be produced by Vaughn and directed by stunt coordinator-turned-director Damien Walters. Vaughn talked about the movie saying:

“The trilogy will be School Fight, this movie, let’s call it Vram for the time being, and then Kick-Ass, and they’re all connected.”

School Fight has already been shot and is completed, and the second film Vram is currently in production. When asked if the plan was to have all three films done before any of them were released. He said:

“No. So, when this (VRAM) is finished, I think this will launch, I’ll be conservative on this, if we’re lucky, Toronto, if we’re not lucky, Sundance. Well, this year, next year, if you know what I mean.”

I’m intrigued by this and it will be interesting to see how this trilogy plays out and leads to the reboot of Kick-Ass. We don’t have any other details to share for School Fight or Vram, but when previously talking about the Kick-Ass reboot, he said:

“We’re halfway through it. There’s a very, very dare I say it… and it’s gonna be a cliche coming out of this head of mine. It is a very, very meta-universe. It is what, you know, Kick-Ass was reinventing and creating an R-rated superhero and no one was really doing it. This is taking that whole concept to a worthy…not even a sequel because I think it’s just a whole new way of doing Kick-Ass, which couldn’t be more Kick-Ass.”

What do you think about Vaughn’s trilogy plan that will lead to his Kick-Ass reboot?
