Floyd Mayweather has remained strong through some of the toughest battles, but the loss of a very good friend is just too much for him to put on a brave face and fight back tears.
In a rare moment of vulnerability, the boxing icon bared his soul as he mourned the loss of his longtime assistant and dear friend, Marikit “Kitchie” Laurico. In an interview on the “Pivot” podcast, Mayweather tearfully paid tribute to Kitchie, describing her as the epitome of kindness and selflessness.
For over a decade, Kitchie stood by Mayweather’s side, not just as an assistant but as a trusted confidant and unwavering source of support. Mayweather revealed that Kitchie was the one person in his life with whom he could share his deepest fears and secrets, a bond that transcended the boundaries of employer and employee. “Kitchie was the only person in life that I could talk about anything to, that knew my deepest secrets,” Mayweather said. “There was no male or female in my life that I told more stuff to than her.” He continued, “She taught me a lot, she helped me a lot. Through rain, sleet, snow, or hail, she had my back.”

Despite Mayweather’s immense wealth and resources, Kitchie never sought his assistance for personal gain, choosing instead to focus on uplifting him and his family. Her unwavering positivity and dedication left a lasting impact on Mayweather, shaping him into the man he is today.
“All my assistant wanted to do was support me and help me be the best man I can be and she wanted my kids just to be positive and she was a positive person,” he said.
As we previously reported, Kitchie sadly passed away last March due to reportedly suffering health problems. A statement posted to Kitchie’s Instagram account by her family last year revealed that she died on Friday, March 31. It read: “On March 31, 2023, our brilliant star Kitchie abandoned the physical garment… the angels of Thy loving-kindness descended successively upon her and have ascended her to the spiritual world. We thank all of you who have reciprocated genuine love and positive energy with her. We are grateful for your patience and honoring our privacy.“ Kitchie was 49 years old.
The pain of Kitchie’s untimely passing before they could embark on their planned celebrations together in Aruba and Las Vegas weighed heavily on Mayweather’s heart. He recounted urging her to seek medical treatment for her health issues just days before her tragic death, a decision that haunts him as he grapples with the void left by her absence.
In a poignant display of raw emotion, Mayweather acknowledged that while he may be undefeated in the ring, when it comes to matters of the heart and honoring the memory of those he has lost, his tears flow freely. Kitchie’s presence in his life, both professionally and personally, left an indelible mark that continues to shape Mayweather’s journey toward finding closure and peace amidst the pain of her absence.
“We argue, we debate, we help each other … that’s a sister I never had. A best friend I ever had.”
Mayweather admitted it takes a lot for him to cry … but when it comes to talking about the ones close to him, it’s nearly impossible to hold back his emotions.
As Mayweather continues to navigate the depths of his grief and seeks solace in cherished memories, it’s clear that there will always be a place in his heart for Kitchie.
