Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story is a documentary that is a powerful, heartfelt tribute to the legendary Christopher Reeve, the iconic actor and activist who forever etched himself into our hearts as Superman. Directed by Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui, this film dives deep into the life and career of the man who made the world believe that “a man could fly.”

The documentary is filled with never-before-seen home movies and personal archives, offering audiences an intimate glimpse into Reeve’s journey from an unknown stage actor to the iconic Superman. It takes audiences on a poignant journey that navigates between two pivotal moments in Reeve’s life, his casting as Superman in 1978 and the life-altering accident in 1995 that left him quadriplegic, painting a vivid portrait of a man who soared to stardom and faced profound adversity.

The film offers a candid portrayal of Christopher Reeve as a man, not just a superhero. Reeve’s family and close confidantes open their hearts and share their reflections on life before and after the tragic accident. There’s level of honesty and vulnerability is very moving, and it’s a full-fledged portrait that encompasses both the highs and lows of Reeve’s remarkable journey.

As a fan of Christopher Reeve, I was deeply moved by Super/Man. From the moment it began, I found myself in tears, overwhelmed by the emotional storytelling. Seriously, I couldn’t stop crying! I’m such a huge fan of Reeve and seeing him as Superman when I was a kid left a lasting impression on me. He was one of those actors that I idolized when I was a kid, and seeing his story told in this documentary, completely broke me.

Reeve’s portrayal of Superman left an indelible mark on many of us, and this documentary pays a fitting tribute to his legacy. The film not only celebrates Reeve’s inspirational moments but also acknowledges his imperfections. Like all of us, Reeve was not a flawless human being, and the documentary portrays him in a relatable light. The filmmakers didn’t sugarcoat his story but presented him as a complex and authentic individual.

The stories and insights shared by Reeve’s children, and actors such as Susan Sarandon, Jeff Daniels, Glenn Close, and Woopie Goldberg, provide a deeper understanding of the kind of person Christopher Reeve was beyond the silver screen. There are moments in the documentary that hit you like a gut punch of emotion, revealing the depth of love and admiration that his loved ones had for him.
