Porsha Williams has filed for divorce from husband Simon Guobadia after just over a year of marriage.
On the heels of reports regarding Simon’s alleged past crimes and “sham” marriages, which have led to the U.S. government declining to grant him citizenship, and just after confirming her return to The Real Housewives of Atlanta, Porsha, 42, filed documents to end their 15-month marriage.
According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE on February 23, Porsha filed for divorce from Simon, 59, on Thursday in Atlanta.
While the timing of her filing seemed to coincide with the reveal of Simon’s reportedly sketchy past, an insider told the outlet their split was “unrelated to recent allegations involving Simon’s past,” which include bank fraud and identity fraud. Instead, the breakup was credited to an “ongoing matter” that was not confirmed.
Just five days ago, all appeared to be more than well between Porsha and Simon as they enjoyed a day out on the water in Dubai.
“My ride or die…. ( And yes he thought he was gone die today ),” she captioned a clip of them together, adding in a hashtag, “Be His Peace.”
Porsha and Simon tied the knot in November 2022 in a traditional Nigerian ceremony followed by an American ceremony.
As RHOA fans may recall, Simon was previously married to series “friend” Falynn Guobadia for a year and a half. Their relationship came to an end in early 2021, just weeks before Porsha, who shares four-year-old daughter Pilar with ex-fiance Dennis McKinley, and Simon confirmed their engagement.
“Yes we are crazy in love,” Porsha captioned a selfie with Simon at that time. “I know it’s fast but we are living life each day to its fullest. I choose happiness every morning and every night.”
Meanwhile, Simon shared in a post of his own that he proposed marriage to Porsha “because we checked ALL of each other’s boxes, and then some.”
Oddly, when Porsha announced her return to RHOA earlier this month, just as Kandi Burruss, 47, shared news of her departure, she made it clear she wanted to be known as Porsha Guobadia, rather than her maiden name.
“Porsha Williams coming back to the Real Housewives of Atlanta? That’s false,” she told fans in an Instagram video. “But Porsha Guobadia is in the building. See ya!”
Shortly thereafter, Simon shared a post honoring his wife amid her return.
“Our family is gratified and appreciative of the [love],” he wrote in the caption of a photo of Porsha, also including hashtags for “Black excellence” and “Black History Month.”
No word yet on when The Real Housewives of Atlanta season 16 will go into production.
