Sylvester Stallone recently appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, and while there he talked about a conversation he had with Ryan Gosling. By the end of that conversation, Stallone wanted Gosling to take over his iconic role Rambo if he ever decided to pass on the baton. Stallone said:
“I met [Ryan Gosling] at a dinner. Obviously we are opposites. He’s good looking. I’m not. Seriously! Could you imagine me as Ken? It doesn’t work at all….[Ryan] goes, ‘I was fascinated by Rambo, and I used to go to school dressed as Rambo, and people would chase me, away and I still didn’t stop. I’d vacation as Rambo.’ He just kept saying that he had a lot of affiliation with Rambo. And I thought, you know, this is interesting. If I ever pass the baton, I’ll pass it on to him because he loves the character.”
That’s nice of Stallone, but there really is only one Rambo, and no one could or should replace Stallone as this character. When Stallone is done with it, the franchise should end. But, you know what Hollywood is like, so maybe one day we will see Gosling star in a Rambo movie.
John Rambo is a former Green Beret and Vietnam War veteran. The franchise follows Rambo’s journey as he navigates through various conflicts, often finding himself as a lone warrior battling against oppressive forces. The character’s struggle with the traumas of war and his relentless pursuit of justice form the core themes of the franchise. Across multiple films, fans witness Rambo’s transformation from a troubled veteran with severe post-traumatic stress disorder seeking solace to an iconic action hero finding determination in the face of adversity.
