Jo Jung-Suk, aka Cho Jung-Seok, is a 43-year-old South Korean actor and singer who recently appeared in the Netflix drama Captivating the King. Also starring Shin Se-Kyung, the series ended on Sunday, March 3, 2024.

The popular actor started his career in theater, including several musicals. In 2012, he made his movie debut as a supporting character in Architecture 101. Since then, he has showcased versatility in acting in many genres, such as comedy, romance, and thrillers.

In personal life, the Hospital Playlist star is married to singer Gummy, and they are parents to a daughter. Recently, Netflix announced that Jo Jung-Suk will debut as a singer through a reality series, A-List to Playlist.

Meanwhile, let’s take a look at some of Jo Jung-Suk’s movies and dramas.

Captivating the King

Captivating the King is Jo Jung-Suk’s recently ended K-drama on Netflix. He plays King Lee In, a misunderstood ruler who gets entangled with a baduk player. Shin Se-Kyung essays the role of Kang Hee-Soo, who disguises herself as a male baduk player, Mong-Woo. Their initial encounter creates a bond between them, but political circumstances lead to their separation.

When Hee-Soo returns to the palace as Mong-Woo after three years, she is determined to seek revenge on Lee In for the death of her friend and father. A series of misunderstandings make Hee-Soo believe that Lee In has wrongfully taken over the throne. Eventually, the desire for revenge turns into unintended love.

Hospital Playlist

Hospital Playlist is a popular K-drama revolving around five long-time friends. They have known each other for 20 years, from medical school to colleagues in the same hospital. The five buddies also have a band together. The actors and characters of friends include Jo Jung-Suk as Lee Ik-Jun, Yoo Yeon-Seok as Ahn Jung-Won, Jung Kyung-Ho as Kim Jun-Wan, Kim Dae-Myung as Yang Suk-Hyung, and Jeon Mi-Do as Chae Song-Hwa.

The heartwarming medical drama is one of the classics in the Korean entertainment industry. While season 1 aired in 2020, the second season premiered in 2021. The Captivating the King actor has also lent his voice to several OSTs in this series.

Oh My Ghost

Oh My Ghost is a 2015 romance comedy K-drama starring Jo Jung-Suk as Kang Sun-Woo and Park Bo-Young as Na Bong-Sun. While Bong-Sun is a shy and naive young woman, Sun-Woo is a star chef. She loses confidence after being yelled at every single day at the restaurant where Sun-Woo is the chef. One day, a lustful virgin ghost enters her body, leading to Bong-Sun’s personality change. This grabs Sun-Woo’s attention, and soon, he finds himself attracted to her.

Consisting of 16 episodes, the series is available on Viki. It also stars Kim Seul-Gi, Lim Ju-Hwan, Kwan Si-Yang, and Shin Hye-Sun.

My Annoying Brother

My Annoying Brother is a comedy-drama featuring Jung-Suk as Doo-Sik and Do Kyungsoo (D.O. of Exo) as Doo-Young. Doo-Sik is the elder brother who is in prison, and Doo-Young is the younger one who is a promising judo athlete. Due to an accident, the latter loses his eyesight, giving Doo-Sik a chance to escape the prison. The two brothers, who hate each other, begin to live together after 15 years.

Besides them, the movie also stars Park Shin-Hye, Kim Kang-Hyun, Choi Min-Ho, and Kim Deuk-Gyum.
